Fixed Wing Scale Fly-In - Cancelled.

Regretfully we are forced to cancel our first scheduled Scale Fly-In for tomorrow the 30th April 2017 due to unfavourable weather conditions. Wind and intermittent rain is forecast for the Curragh from mid-morning; not good flying conditions or for some good scale flying.

However, the good news is that we have re-scheduled it for next Sunday the 7th May 2017. The same details apply as in the flyer for the 30th April, the only difference is the date - next Sunday the 7th May 2017.

Fixed Wing Scale Fly-In - 30th April 2017.

Dear SMFAI Member,

The Committee of the SMFAI invites you to the upcoming Fixed Wing SMFAI Scale, Fly-In to be held on Sunday the 30th April 2017. The event will be hosted by the N&DMFC at their flying field on the Little Curragh, Co. Kildare.

This event is free and open to all current SMFAI Members. The event is not just limited to fully-built airworthy models, it is also open to any member who will not be flying, but instead would like to showcase any models they might have at various stage of construction or design, together with engines, other power plants and bits of interesting kit you may have in your workshop to show to other members.

We would also be keen to see or hear from you at first hand, about any special or unique feature, preparation, finish or specific detail you have incorporated into any of your scale builds that you would be able to bring to the event on the day.

Attached with this email is a flyer, outlining the event in some more detail. If you have not attended the N&DMFC flying field before we have noted the GPS co-ordinates on the attached flyer. For guidance on directions to the site, a Google Earth map is attached with access details from the roadway (R415) and other relevant information. The waiting point noted on the map is the most convenient access point to the patch and is beside an ESB power pole adjacent to the dirt track.

Due to the sensitivity of the other activities possibly taking place before 13:00 pm, it is essential that members arriving before this time, do not cross the turf gallops track, and assembles at the ESB pole until directed to cross to the flying patch by an N&DMFC member. The Rathbride Road, shown on the map, leads past the rear of the Curragh Racecourse Grandstand and to junction 12 on the M7 motorway.

If the event has to be re-scheduled due to poor weather conditions, notification of cancellation ONLY, will be posted on the SMFAI website ( after 18:00 on the 29th April 2017.
